Domain names are very important for your business branding. You should research them thoroughly before deciding on one. As has been stated before, .com is an ideal extension but the supply no longer meets the demand. Luckily, there are other domain names to choose from. Some of those domain names may be highly related to the type of business that you have.

.biz is a very popular domain extension. It is a top-level domain that was created because of the lack of availability with  .com. When you look at this extension, the first word that comes to mind is business. Let's take a look and find out some more information about the .biz extension. Maybe this could be a good extension for your business - depending on what services you provide.

The Biz domain is still not as popular as. org, .net, or certainly dot-com. However, this extension is very short and user-friendly. The extension is quickly associated with businesses which will help bring a seriousness to your brand.

However, if you are running a blog, you may not want to use this extension. You should also be aware of any.com businesses that have the same name or business as you do. People tend to default to a.com, so if someone is looking for your brand but they forget to type. biz, you may end  up sending them to your competition.

 What Is a .Biz Domain?

If you have a commercial organization or business, a.biz domain is for you. Created in 2001,  this extension is recognized by Google as a gTLD or generic top-level domain.  To date, over 2 million websites have the.biz extension.

Your web extension is very important, especially if you don't have a highly coverted.com.While a .com can be used for any business, other specific domains often provide more information about what type of business it represents. For example,. org is normally used by nonprofits, while .gov is used by various government sites such as your city or state website.

If you are running a serious business, and you don't have a dot-com, a .biz website is an obvious choice. It should not be used if you do not have a commercial business.

At least if you choose this domain, it is accessible.  The .biz domain is available for website owners, unlike a.com.

Trust Issues

When this domain first came out, unfortunately, many scammers used it. While that is no longer the case, many people have not forgotten this issue. Online scamming is still a huge issue and most users don't want to talk the chance of having their information compromised. Therefore, some people may not trust this extension unless it is attached to a very well-known brand.

Many businesses who could have used this domain still prefer the.com extension. After all, a.com is widely recognized around the world and is not automatically associated with something unscrupulous.

A brand with a well-known business and popular products can fare well with this extension. However, new businesses may have a problem promoting themselves because some people are automatically turned off when they see a. Biz extension. The word “biz” automatically makes people think of a sales pitch. If someone does not feel like being hassled by an online or in-person salesman, they may avoid a company with this extension.

How many times have you clicked on an email or went to a website out of curiosity and ended up being spammed continuously for products that you may not be interested in? Of course, all businesses do not operate this way. Such a scenario is common enough to make people trepidatious about clicking on this extension.

In this case, make sure you have strong content and promotion. Customers and web visitors will respond to good content. Your search results depend on your SEO strategy. If you only use your website as a visual representation of your brand, but not as a sales pitch, then you should be okay. However, if you send marketing emails using this extension, people may be less eager to click on it.

SEO

If you are worried about ranking in search - don't.  Google has no ill-will towards a non-.com extension. Whenever it comes to search, website owners must focus on their SEO strategy along with good content.

Of course, users may not click on your site if they do not trust it. However, you should not have a problem with ranking due to this extension. The .biz extension is a top-level domain and is recognized as such in search.

Final Thoughts About This Domain

I cannot emphasize the importance of getting a.com if you are able to. However, a .biz extension is a top-level domain that may represent your company very well. It has no negative effect on your ability to show up and search. It is also a short clean crisp extension.

it is no more or less safe than any other domain. This extension automatically conjures up associations with business, which can be a plus or a minus, depending on who is viewing your content. On one hand, you may be seen as a professional company. On the other hand, potential viewers may think you are a spammer or will hassle them with sales pitches.

If you use this domain, you may have to think long and hard about positive branding in areas beyond your website.. As we stated earlier, unknowledgeable viewers may associate you with spam or sales. However, if people associate your brand with good products and a trustworthy reputation, they are more likely to click on your website. If you don't have a commercial site, this probably won't be the ideal extension for you.
