How To Get Rid Of Blinking Text Cursor Everywhere In Chrome

By James LePage
 on August 1, 2022

In this article, we'll discuss how to get rid of the Blinking Text Cursor globally appearing in Chrome. With this issue, the cursor (AKA "the insertion point"), appears when clicking any text or element of a website, regardless of if you can edit it or not.

Here's an example of the issue.

Blinking text cursors should appear when typing text into an input - a form for example.

But with this issue, it appears everywhere in Chrome. Many may thinking that this is an annoying bug - but that's not the case.

From: "There is a text cursor bug in my chrome that causes the blinking cursor to appear everywhere I click"

However it's not a bug - instead it's an accessibility feature called "Navigate pages with a text cursor".

To disable this, and the blinking cursor everywhere, open the Chrome settings.

You can easily do this by searching for "settings" and then clicking the "manage settings" button.

Then go to the "accessibility tab" and toggle off the "navigate pages with a text cursor" option.

👩‍🏫

"Navigate pages with a text cursor" is also known as Caret Browsing.

The blinking text cursor makes it easy to understand where you're navigating if you use the keyboard. For example, if you use the arrow keys to move the cursor over a link and press enter, it will essentially "click" and open that link.

To toggle this on an off you can also use the F7 key.

However, for those that don't use the keyboard to navigate, it can be annoying, so this is the best way to disable that pesky cursor everywhere you click in the Chrome browser.

Click f7. The button is located on the top of the keyboard. if you are using windows that's no problem for you. but if you are using a Chromebook, you might need to do it the hard way: go to settings, then click accessibility, then go to the navigate pages with text cursor. then turn it off.

Thank you so much!

That kind of behavior was really annoying, because very often you want to go to the bottom or the top of the page, and the cursor just goes to the end of the line!
