To make changes and maintain your WordPress website, it's important that you have access to the admin dashboard. For many new users, the wordpress login URL can be misplaced.
In this article we will show you how to find your WordPress login URL and login to the backend dashboard of your website.
Note: this article is for wordpress.org, not wordpress.com installations. wordpress.org is an open source distribution which is hosted on third party platforms like GoDaddy or Cloudways.
There are two roads that you can take to find and log into WordPress. The default URL for the admin dashboard is as follows:
yoursitedomain.com/wp-admin/
if you are already logged into your website, this will bring you directly to the dashboard. If not, it will redirect you to the login page. Many users simply type this in to access their backend.
The login URL for any self hosted WordPress website is as follows:
yoursitedomain.com/wp-login.php/
This page will always display the standard login form. Depending on if you have an able to use the registration, there will also be a registration link, alongside a lost password link.
To log into the website, simply add the username and password that you said during installation. If you installed it yourself, you will have manually entered this, and if you used a one click installer via your hosting, you'll be able to access the credentials through an email or in the hosting dashboard
A third option to login to your website is depending on your hosting. Many hosts will offer a one click login feature from their dashboard to the WordPress admin. Contact your hosting support to see if they support this helpful and time-saving feature. By using the one click login feature that many of these web posts offer, you won't need to remember your username or password.
Sometimes, WordPress security plugins change the admin login URL and obfuscate the dashboard. If this is the case and you do not remember the new WordPress login URL, ask your host to disable any security plug-ins that you may have installed. It will default back to the standard link.
If you find yourself locked out from the WordPress website, follow the helpful steps outlined in this article to get back in.
We suggest bookmarking the WordPress login URL if you regularly access the backend dashboard of your website.
You can also quickly add a login link to any page or post that is built using the Gutenberg builder by adding a new login widget.
Clicking on this will send you to the login page discussed above.
